I am delighted to be patron of the Set Sail Trust, which benefits our community by offering access to a range of nautical trips and activities for primary schoolchildren, special groups and clubs; particularly those who would not usually enjoy such opportunities. Experiences like these are valuable in themselves, especially for islanders. Moreover, they develop life skills that benefit both the individual and wider community.
Our rocky coasts, sandy bays and vast tidal range bring endless opportunities for exploration and fun, while our remarkable seafaring history inspires pride, adventure and commerce. The Trust works to give all our young people an appreciation of the maritime spirit and beauty of our islands, which have shaped the character of their people. Long may that continue.
