Much of the history of Guernsey has been passed down from generation to generation. Long before books were commonplace and cheaply available, memorable historic events and dramatic tales of exciting adventures on the high seas were shared around the community as stories, told by parents and grand-parents to their children, who in turn passed these stories on to their descendants.
Now we have books and technology maintaining a record of our history is so much easier. We have recently produced a book, ‘Set Sail to Guernsey’ which you can now download here [PDF format, 83MB]
To accompany the book, in this section of the website we have collected together some of those very same stories that were handed down across the generations.
